Rescue centre spent Xmas Eve saving bird from busy motorway
Wild Wings Birds of Prey, a bird rescue, conservation, and education centre based in Risley, was called out to the M6 after receiving word from Highways England that a buzzard had been spotted ‘in trouble on the motorway’. This took place between Lymm services and Knutsford.
The full post from Wild Wings Birds of Prey reads:
“Just when you think you are going to get an easy day and an early finish.
“Huge thanks to James and the rest of the guys from Highways England who called us for this buzzard that was in trouble on the motorway.
“Once again, they stopped traffic on the M6 between Lymm Services and Knutsford to allow Ian to contain the bird. Their concern for wildlife is exemplary.
“Cold and wet and possibly clipped by a vehicle the buzzard is now warm and dry and has had meds to aid recovery.
“Apologies for anybody held up in the traffic to allow this rescue. Thanks again to all concerned.”
Commenters have rushed to praise the centre for their quick work which likely saved the bird.
Patrick Cashman commented: “Well done all of you in putting Xmas on hold to go to the rescue of the stricken little buzzard on the busy motorway.
“What would we do without you looking out for the birds in need at any time of year.
“So heartwarming to read and this is why we to are here, to support you knowing he is safe and sound! Merry Christmas to one all!”
Jo Wheatley was also full of praise for the Highway services, commenting: “It’s amazing that that section of highways are so alert and compassionate”.
