M62 crash: Part of motorway closes for police work
As the Telegraph & Argus reported earlier[1], emergency services were called to a three-vehicle collision on the eastbound stretch of the M62, close to junction 23, at 8.55pm yesterday.
A person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another person was also injured.
A National Highways spokesperson said tonight: "The M62 in West Yorkshire[2] is now closed eastbound between junction 22 (Ripponden) and junction 24 (near Huddersfield) for police investigations following an earlier collision.
"West Yorkshire police are in attendance.
"National Highways resources are assisting with traffic management.
"Police collision investigation works will be ongoing into the late evening and night.
"Please plan ahead and allow extra journey time.
"Thank you for your patience in advance."
At this stage[3], National Highways has not said what time the closure is expected to be lifted.
The following diversion is in place:

Exit the M62 at junction 22. At the end of the slip turn left on to the A672 (Oldham Road)

Follow the A672 to the junction with the A58

At the junction join the A58 (Halifax Road) and continue on this road until the junction with the A6142. Be aware that there is a low bridge at Sowerby Bridge, with a height restriction of 16"3'

At the roundabout take the first exit onto the A6142. Continue on this road until the junction with the A58

At the junction go straight ahead on to the A58 (Rochdale Road) and continue on this road until the junction with the A646

At this junction turn right on to the A646. Continue on the A646 until the junction with the A629

At this junction turn right on to the A629. Continue on the A629 to the roundabout (Ainley Top) with the A643

At the roundabout take the third exit on to the A629

Follow the A629 to the junction with the M62 junction 24
-
At the roundabout take the second exit and rejoin the M62 eastbound at junction 24
