LIVE M60 traffic updates as lanes shut after crash and region hit by weather and flood warnings

Drivers are being hit by delays this evening after a crash on the M60 and M62 tonight.

Travel service Inrix says: “Three lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M60 clockwise from J17 A56 Bury New Road (Prestwich / Whitefield) to J18 M66 J4 (Simister Island).

“M62 Eastbound partially blocked, queueing traffic due to accident at J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).”

A section of the M66 is also shut due to flooding. The Southbound carriageway is closed due to flooding at J1 A56 Walmersley Road (Ramsbottom).

It comes after earlier disruption on the M60, when two lanes were shut following the collision at around 5pm tonight. Travel service Inrix said: “Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M60 anticlockwise between J6 Rifle Road (Sale) and J5 A5103 (Princess Parkway).” The collision cleared by 8pm.

Drivers have been warned to take extra care in the region today (December 9) as two yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office[1]. All of Greater Manchester is covered by a warning for strong winds, which is in force until 11.45pm tonight.

High-sided vehicles in particular could face tricky driving conditions on the region’s motorways as a result. Meanwhile, heavy rain is forecast across the region for large parts of the day.

In some areas, another weather warning has been issued for rain, in force until 3am tomorrow across northern and eastern parts of Greater Manchester. The Met Office[4] says some spray and flooding on roads is likely today.

With heavy traffic expected, and potentially tricky conditions, delays and issues are expected on the region’s motorways and major roads. Here’s the latest on Greater Manchester’s key roads – including the M62, M60, M6, M61, M67, M56 and M66.
