LIVE: M6 closed northbound after air ambulance attends crash between two lorries and two cars
The M6 is closed northbound this morning after a crash between two HGVs and two cars at the Thelwall Viaduct. Both sides of the motorway were closed while the air ambulance landed before rushing a casualty, whom police said had suffered serious chest injuries, to hospital.
A police spokesperson added a number of other casualties had been taken to hospital following the crash between a white Ford Zetec, a white Ford Kuga and two HGVs around 7.48am today (December 11). There are queues of over seven miles to junction 19 for Knutsford.
Traffic is heavy through Warrington on Knutsford Road and Kingsway North following a diversion. The southbound carriageway reopened around 9.10am, but traffic remains heavy in that direction.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 7.48am on Monday 11 December police were called to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the M6 northbound, at Thelwall Viaduct. Officers attended the scene and found the collision involved two HGVs, a white Ford Zetec and a white Ford Kuga.
“Fire and ambulance were called to the scene and the road was closed in both directions to allow air ambulance to land. One person has sustained a serious chest injury as a result of the collision, they have been taken to hospital via air ambulance.
“A number of other casualties have been taken to hospital by paramedics. The southbound carriageway reopened at around 9.10am, but the northbound carriageway remains closed at this time.”
