Live: M4 Prince of Wales Bridge closed in both directions due to police incident

The M4 Prince of Wales Bridge was closed amid reports of an ongoing police incident this evening (December 30). National Highways said the motorway bridge was closed between Magor and Pilning as of around 8.45pm.

Motorists were advised to use the M48 Severn Bridge as an alternative while the M4 is closed. According to traffic monitor Inrix, some restrictions were in place at the M48 bridge due to high wind speeds, but the bridge is currently open.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Highways wrote: ” #M4[1] #PrinceofWalesBridge[2] J23 #Magor[3] and J22 #Pilning[4] closed in both directions for an ongoing incident. We will advise when it is back open. Please use the M48 as a diversion.”
