Nine out of the ten worst stations are in the north, but Preston takes the top spot with 14 per cent of all trains being cancelled.

Weather conditions, strikes or rail maintenance can all lead to cancelled trains, but with 24 per cent of Brits using public transport for their daily commute, railway reliability has become a growing concern for many commuters.

With this in mind, researchers at TonerGiant[9] crunched the numbers, analysing the top 100 busiest train and tube stations across the UK.

Operated by Avanti West Coast, Preston Railway Station[10] is the UK’s 56th busiest train station, having 14,250 passengers a day. During the peak time of 6pm to 7pm, one in ten trains are cancelled.

Manchester Oxford Road ranks second for cancellations, closely followed by Huddersfield, with both stations seeing 11 per cent of trains cancelled.
