Pedestrian dies after M1 collision near junction 23 East Midlands Airport closes motorway for hours

A man has been pronounced dead after a collision involving a pedestrian and vehicle on the M1.[1] The incident was reported to Leicestershire Police[2] on Friday, November 17, at around 9:20pm.

It is believed that the pedestrian was initially on a bridge on Butt Hole Lane in Shepshed, shortly after junction 23 of the M1[3] northbound. The man was subsequently found on the carriageway, where a white VW Touran collided with him.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for witnesses and are keen to speak to anyone that may have seen the man standing on the bridge or who witnessed any part of the incident.

Officers are in the very early stages of their enquiries, and are also asking anyone who was driving along this route to check the footage on any video recording equipment they may have installed in their vehicles.
