A MAN has been arrested following a motorway vehicle fire which has caused major disruption for those travelling to Inverclyde this morning.
The M8 westbound has been closed between junction 28a at St James Interchange and junction 29a at Bishopton since shortly before 4am.
Drivers have faced lengthy delays, with a diversion in place via Linwood and Erskine.
Emergency services were called to the scene in the early hours of this morning.
Motorists are advised that the M8 westbound is closed between junctions 28A and 29, due to investigation and recovery work following a vehicle fire. There is a diversion in place onto the A737 westbound.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.55am on Tuesday, 7 November, 2023, police received a report of a damaged vehicle on fire, on the M8 near junction 29, Paisley.
“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished. A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.
“The road is currently closed to allow for investigation and recovery to take place. Local diversions are in place.”
In a social media post, Traffic Scotland said there is currently ‘no estimate’ as to when the road will reopen.
