M62 crash today live as multi-vehicle accident leads to long delays near Leeds
A multi-vehicle crash has occurred on a major motorway near Leeds.
Five miles of congestion piled up on the M62[1], from Rothwell to Tingley, causing about 30 minute delays for motorists. The incident occurred before 5pm this evening (Tuesday, November 21).
Two lanes[2] were shut between junction 29 and 30, says Highways England, while emergency crews attended the scene. All lanes have since been reopened.
HIghways England issued the following statement on X, it said: “Lanes 2 and 3 (of 3) are closed on the M62 eastbound between J29 M1 and J30 A642 Wakefield due to a multi-vehicle collision. Recovery is en route to scene. There are 5 miles of congestion on approach causing 30 min delays above normal journey time.”
Traffic data site Inrix said: “Long delays and two lanes closed due to accident on M62 Eastbound before J30 A642 (Rothwell). Congestion to After J28 (Tingley). Travel time is around 35 minutes.
“Lanes three and four (of four) are closed, approaching the exit slip road. There is a broken down vehicle within the queues resulting in a lane closure.”
