LIVE: A55 shut due to serious crash as air ambulance lands at scene

The A55 has been shut due to a serious crash. The road has been closed between the A51 for Chester and the A41 for Christleton.

The air ambulance has landed at the scene of the crash. Cheshire Police said: “We’ve put a full road closure in both directions on the A55 dual carriageway near Christleton following a serious incident.

“Please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.” Earlier, National Highways said: “The A55 in Cheshire is closed westbound between the A51 (Chester) and the A41 (Christleton) due to a serious collision.

“Cheshire Police are among the emergency services on scene. More information including diversion route details to follow.”

North West Motorway Police said: “We currently have police at the scene of a collision on A55 between J40 Vicars cross and 39. We currently have a full closure at that location. Expect delays in the area.” This is a breaking news story and we will bring you all the latest as we get it.
