Heartbreak for man who fell from M6 bridge into path of HGV
People are heartbroken after a man died after falling from a bridge on the M6 and into the path of a HGV.
Lancashire Police[1] was called to the northbound carriageway just after Junction 27, close to Wrightington, at 10.55am today following reports a man had fallen from a motorway bridge and been struck by a Scania HGV. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services the man was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital.
His next of kin have been informed. The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner in due course.
The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours to allow for investigation work to be carried out. It has since been re-opened.
Martin Wilcock, from the road policing unit, said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in a man losing his life and my thoughts are with all those impacted by it.”
ECHO readers took to the comments section to share their heartbreak following the news of the man’s death.
Rachael Parker said: “Heartbreaking all round. Heartbreaking for poor HGV driver, heartbreaking for families. R.I.P young man.”

Valerie Ann said: “Poor driver, poor guy who fell. Thoughts go to his friends and family.
