Fire crews attend crashes and car fires on Lancashire roads

At around 9.35pm on Thursday (November 9), crews from Preston and Fulwood attended at crash on the M55 eastbound close to the interchange with the M6 south.

The incident involved two vehicles but thankfully no injuries were reported and crews remained in attendance for around 50 minutes.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "At 9.38pm on November 9, two fire engines from Preston and Fulwood attended a road traffic collision on the M55 Eastbound motorway, on the interchange merging with the M6 Southbound.

"The incident involved two vehicles. Firefighters used stabilisation struts, a reciprocating saw, and small tools at this incident.

"No injuries were reported. They were in attendance for approximately 50 minutes."

Then, in the early hours of Friday morning (November 10), crews were called to Lostock Hall following reports of a one vehicle crash which had resulted in the car bursting into flames. 

At 3am firefighters from Bamber Bridge were called to Elmar Stoney Lane and were required to extinguish the car fire following the crash.

Again, there were no injuries and crews stayed at the scene for about 45 minutes.

The spokesperson added: "At 3.02am on November 10, two fire engines from Bamber Bridge attended a road traffic collision on Elmar Stoney Lane, Lostock Hall, Preston.

"The incident involved one vehicle that was well alight when the crews arrived.

"Firefighters used one hose reel, and one breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. They were in attendance for forty-five minutes."

And finally, at 1pm on Friday (November 10), crews were once again called to the M55, but this time the westbound carriageway between junctions one and two, following reports of another car fire.

A car was engulfed in flames on the hard shoulder when crew arrived at the incident, but luckily, and thankfully, no one was injured in this incident either.

The spokesperson continued: "At 1pm on November 10, two fire engines from Preston and Penwortham attended a vehicle fire on the M55 Westbound motorway, between J1 and J2.

"The incident involved one vehicle that was well alight on the hard shoulder when the crews arrived.

"Firefighters used one hose reel, and one breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

"No injuries were reported. They were in attendance for an hour."
