A woman is fighting for life after a horror crash on a busy freeway.

Emergency services raced to an onramp on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Molendinar on the Gold Coast[2] on Tuesday night following a smash between a ute and sedan.

Queensland[3] Police were told the ute was travelling southbound on the Smith Street onramp to the freeway and had slowed to merge into the traffic when the yellow sedan crashed into the rear of the vehicle at speed.

The driver of the sedan, a 34-year-old Nerang man, was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in a stable condition.

Two others were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Harrowing photos of the crash aftermath show the wreckage of the sedan crumpled under the ute tray.

Part of Pacific Motorway was closed for much of the night as forensic officers examined the scene.

Forensic Crash Unit investigations into the crash continue.

Anyone with information about the crash or lead up is urged to call Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
