M57 delays as car bursts into flames on hard shoulder

There are delays on the M57 after a car burst into flames on the carriageway.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service[1] were called to the M57 northbound between junction two, Prescot[2], and junction three, Huyton[3], on Friday, October 6, following reports of a vehicle fire. Once firefighters arrived at the scene at 5.17pm they found one car well alight on the hard shoulder.

Lane closures were put in place on the motorway whilst the crews onboard one fire engine put out the flames. The fire was extinguished and firefighters left the scene at 5.33pm.

Traffic monitoring service, INRIX reported delays on the carriageway while the incident was ongoing, with commuters queuing back onto Seth Powell Way.
