M5 delays after serious crash and fuel spill in Somerset

All traffic was held on the M5 following a crash in Somerset this afternoon (October 6). There was slow traffic building heading towards Bristol.

Motorway traffic cameras showed a large 999 presence following the crash, which led to fuel and debris being spilled across the carriageway.

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, the collision took place between junction 23 for Bridgwater and junction 22 for Burnham-on-Sea at around midday. The road reopened and traffic returned to normal by 3pm.

Inrix says: “Traffic easing, earlier accident on M5 Northbound from J23 A39 (Bridgwater North) to J22 (Burnham-on-sea).”
