M1 live updates as drivers face 70-minute delays after crash between junction 23 and junction 23a

Drivers face seven miles of congestion and 70 minute delays after crash on the M1 near East Midlands Airport. All lanes are back open but highways bosses have warned of the residual delays.

The crash had closed two lanes on the southbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 23a near the airport and junction 23 for Loughborough. Officials at the East Midlands division of National Highways told drivers to expect added journey times.

"The vehicles have now been moved out of live lane and all lanes are now running on the M1 southbound between J23A for the A42 and J23, Loughborough. There are seven miles of congestion following this incident, causing 70 minute delays above normal travel time. Allow time to clear."
