Live updates as Liverpool Women’s Hospital bombing investigation findings released

The findings of an investigation into a bomb attack outside Liverpool Women's Hospital are being released today.

Operation Itonia, a counter-terrorism policing North West probe into the incident[1] on November 14, 2021, has now been completed and its conclusions are being released. Officers involved in the investigation will also be talking about what they found.

The attack, in which perpetrator Emad al-Swealmeen died, took place inside a taxi as it arrived at the women's hospital's main entrance. The driver of the taxi, David Perry, ran to safety after the explosion.

At the official inquest[2] at Liverpool and Wirral Coroner's Court on 30 December 2021, the senior coroner recorded a narrative conclusion, saying that al-Swealmeen had carried the improvised device into the taxi, after making it in his flat

We'll have updates from Merseyside Police HQ, where more detail is being provided on what the investigation looked at and what the investigators concluded.
