Erskine Bridge to close for £250,000 worth of ‘essential improvements’

The Erskine Bridge is to close for £250,000 worth of “essential improvements”.

The A898 and its slip roads will be shut overnight on Thursday, October 26, to Friday and then throughout the weekend until Monday, October 30.

The closure will allow for multiple projects to be undertaken including bridge joint replacements, resurfacing and patching of the bridge deck and the southbound off-slip road to the A726 Roundabout, electrical road crossing works and road markings.

Amey, which will carry out the work on behalf of Transport Scotland, believe completing the maintenance at once will minimise disruption to drivers.

Transport Scotland said the life of the current carriageway has “expired” and that the works are essential for driver safety.

The works involve an investment of around £250,000 which Transport Scotland said will benefit more than 10,000 drivers that use the route every day.

The signed diversions will see Motorway traffic diverted along the A82 Great Western Road and A739 Crow Road, to turn left onto the A814. From here, traffic will be able to join the M8 at Junction 19 (Anderston).

The northbound A898 will remain open throughout the works. There will be controlled access across the bridge for emergency service vehicles, however access between the A898 southbound off-slip road and the A726 will not be maintained.
