Traffic was built up on the M1 near Wakefield on Sunday after lanes two lanes out of four were closed, causing delays of at least 15 minutes for frustrated drivers.
In a video captured by another driver, the white lorry can be seen facing the wrong way, remaining in a stationary position in one of the lanes of the busy motorway, as a helicopter circles above the chaotic scene below.

The National Highways confirmed that the recovery of the lorry had been requested by the police, but as of yet, it is unclear how the driver ended up on the wrong side of the road

At around 2pm on Sunday, traffic monitoring site Inrix said: 'Queueing traffic and two lanes closed due to vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road on M1 Northbound.'
