Two teenagers arrested after woman slashed

Two teenagers were arrested after a woman was slashed in the arm near to where Matthew Daulby was killed just weeks before.

Lancashire Constabulary[1] confirmed to the ECHO[2] that the force received reports that a woman had been slashed with a knife at around 6.05pm yesterday, Friday, September 1 . Officers rushed to Railway Road in Ormskirk Town Centre[3] where they found the woman with injuries to her arm.

The woman was taken to hospital but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary[4] confirmed following enquiries two 16-year-old boys from Skelmersdale[5] were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.

The two teenagers remain in custody. The incident is being treated as an isolated incident between parties known to each other.

Lancashire Constabulary[7] added: "We appreciate there will be some community concern, given previous significant incidents in the town centre and we plan to have an increased presence in the area over the weekend as a precaution."

Matthew Daulby, a 19-year-old from Lydiate, was killed on a night out on Saturday, July 29. He was found a short distance from Railway Road with stab injuries and died later in hospital. His dad Gary told the ECHO[8] his son, who was an Everton FC season ticket holder, "had a great zest for life"[9].

Henry Houghton, 18, was charged with Matthew's murder and will provisionally stand trial at Preston Crown Court on November 27. Eight other people have been arrested as part of the investigation and have since been released on bail.

Regarding the incident on September 1, the force said anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log 1085 of September 1, 2023.
