Northern cancel trains between Preston and Ormskirk due to crash
The crash, which has been described as “minor” by train operator Northern, happened at around 10.45am this morning (September 5) at a level crossing between the two stations.
Services are unable to call at stations between Preston and Ormskirk in both directions, while rail replacement transport has been requested by the company.
A Northern spokesperson said: “There was a minor collision between a train and a tractor at a farm crossing between Preston and Ormskirk. No one was hurt and disruption is expected until further notice.
“We are working to get customers on board back on the move as soon as possible.”
Service updates on Northern’s website say disruption is currently expected until 2.00pm.
An update said: “To assist customers to complete their journey, road transport has been provided between Preston and Ormskirk in both directions, calling at Ormskirk, Croston, Rufford, Burscough Junction, and Preston.
“Journey times will be extended by 20 minutes whilst travelling by rail replacement transport.”
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "At 10.22 we were notified of a collision between a tractor and a train at a level crossing between Preston and Croston (Ormskirk line).
"There were 40 passengers on the train, no injuries were reported.
"After inspection, the train was able to continue.
"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
