Major delays between Preston and Ormskirk after level crossing crash

Major delays to rail services between Preston and Ormskirk are being experienced due to a crash at a level crossing.

The crash is understood to be at the Bee Lane junction near Penwortham[8].

A train, a 9.46am Ormskirk to Preston service, and tractor are involved in the collision.

Northern is warning of disruption on the line until early afternoon on Tuesday (5 September).

A statement for the rail firm[10] said: “Train services are unable to call at stations between Preston and Ormskirk in both directions.

“To assist customers to complete their journey, road transport has been provided between Preston and Ormskirk in both directions calling at Croston, Rufford, Burscough Junction and Preston.”

At 1022 hours we were notified of a collision between a tractor and train at a level crossing between #Preston & #Croston (Ormskirk Line). 40 passengers on the train, no injuries reported.
