M5 closed and air ambulance called out to ‘police incident’ – updates

Diversion route set up

National Highways has posted the following message and diversion route on their website:

“The M5 in Somerset is closed between J26 (Taunton) and J27 (Tiverton) due to a Avon & Somerset Police incident.

“Emergency services including Air Ambulance attended the scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.

“Southbound traffic is being diverted via the solid diamond diversion symbol:

  • Exit the M5 at J26 and at the roundabout, take the third exit on to the A38 headed towards Wellington
  • At the next roundabout, take the first exit to stay on the A38 southbound
  • Continue on the A38 for approx. 9 miles
  • Re-join the M5 at J27

“Traffic is currently stopped northbound whilst Air Ambulance are on the carriageway.

“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
