M1 traffic live as lorry fire causing huge delays northbound near Leeds
A vehicle fire is causing long delays on the M1 northbound near Leeds.
The motorway has been shut between junctions 46 and 47 for just over an hour, however traffic is said to be moving again. Our traffic site Inrix reports: “Long delays and two lanes closed due to earlier vehicle fire on M1 Northbound from J46 A6120 William Parkin Way (Leeds Colton / Garforth) to J47 A656 (Garforth / Micklefield).
“The road reopened at around 10;05 however the matrix signs indicate lanes one and two (of three) remain closed.”
Motorway Cameras reports traffic was “trapped” for around 30 minutes. In an update around 10am, a spokesperson said “trapped traffic is currently being released”.
Firefighters from Killingbeck and Garforth were spotted at the scene around 8.30am. Traffic was seen at a standstill following the incident and normal traffic conditions are expected between 11am and 11.15am.
In an earlier update, a spokesperson for National Highways said: “The M1 is currently closed northbound between J46 and J47 near Leeds due to a HGV fire. Emergency services are in attendance. Delays are building on approach, please seek alternative routes where possible.”
