Live updates as traffic brought to a standstill on the M4

Traffic on the M4 was brought to a standstill as debris was cleared off the carriageway near Cardiff. All traffic was temporarily held twice on the westbound between junction 30 Cardiff Gate and junction 32 Coryton Interchange. It is understood that it had been polystyrene on the carriageway.

A statement from South Wales Police said: "Debris across all lanes M4 Junction 30-32 Westbound. Traffic is starting to back up and delays inevitable. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Police are on scene and clearing carriageways."

All lanes had re-opened by 3.20pm and congestion was starting to ease.
