Glasgow M8 to be closed for two nights in both directions for bridge inspection
Motorists have been warned that a section of the M8 is set to be closed for two consecutive nights next month.
The major motorway will have both its eastbound and westbound carriageways shut[1] at different times at Junction 8 Baillieston, between the off-slip and on-slip roads from Monday, October 9.
The works will take place in two phases as follows, ensuring only one direction of the M8 carriageway, eastbound or westbound, is closed at any given time:
Phase 1: The M8 eastbound carriageway at Junction 8 Baillieston[2], between the off-slip and on-slip roads, will be closed overnight on Monday 09 October (1 night) – between 8pm to 6am the following day.
Phase 2: The M8 westbound carriageway at Junction 8 Baillieston, between the off- slip and on-slip roads, will be closed for one night on Tuesday 10 October (1 night) – between 8pm to 6am the following day.
All slip and link roads around Baillieston interchange will remain open.
The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst bridge inspections are undertaken. Works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to road users.
Signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures. Road users have been asked to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling on these evenings to check their route.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Roads Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the safety of the route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland and Police Scotland.
