Welcome Break speak on gunpoint robbery at Oxford services

The motorway service station, which runs 35 stations in the UK, said it would support police with its enquiries into the robbery which took in the early hours of yesterday morning (Tuesday, July 8).

Thames Valley Police has appealed for witnesses to the incident, which happened at the Welcome Break Oxford Services M40 at junction 8A of the motorway near Wheatley.

At around 3.25am, a truck driver in his 20s noticed a white man approach the side of his parked vehicle.

As the victim went to exit his truck, the man pointed a handgun at him and told him to get back inside his vehicle, which he did.

Police said the vehicle then approached his truck and several people got out, opened his truck, and unloaded 14 pallets containing Samsonite suitcases.

The offenders left the scene in what was described as a 7.5-tonne white truck.

No one was injured.

A Welcome Break spokesperson said: “The safety of our team members and customers is always our top priority.

“This is now a matter for the police and we are supporting them with their enquiries."

Detective sergeant James Waterson said: "Anyone with information or who witnessed anything which could help us, such as those using the services at the time, should call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43230352278.”
