Person dies after being hit by car on M48

Police have confirmed that a person has died after being hit by a car on a motorway. Gwent Police[1] received a report of a road traffic collision on the M48 near Dewstow in Chepstow, at around 2.25am on Monday, July 31. They said that officers attended the scene to assist with traffic management. The collision involved a person and a car.

The motorway was closed between junction two of the M48 and junction 23 of the M4[2] and did not re-open until nearly 17 hours later at just before 7pm.

In an update on Monday night Gwent Police said they were appealing for witnesses to the crash. A statement read: “Officers would like to speak to motorists, including those with dashcam, who were using the M48 or the Newhouse bridge, near Chepstow, between 1am and 3:30am on Monday, July 31.

“The motorway remains closed between junction two of the M48 and junction 23 of the M4, and diversion remains in place at this time. We’d like to thank the public for their patience.”

Police have now confirmed that a person died as a result of the incident. No further updates have been issued at this time.
