M62 closed after serious crash with long delays – latest updates

A section of the M62[1] in Greater Manchester has been closed following a serious crash. National Highways says traffic has been brought to a halt on the M62 westbound between junctions 21 and 20, near Rochdale[2].

Drivers are warned to expect disruption this afternoon (August 2). There is queueing traffic approaching the scene, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote on Twitter: "Traffic is stopped on the #M62 westbound between J21 and J20 near #Rochdale following a collision. @manchesterfire on scene.

"Delays are building, approx. 3 miles of congestion. We'll keep you updated."

In an update at 3pm, they said the westbound carriageway had been fully shut following the 'serious' crash.
