M53 closes after woman falls from motorway bridge
A woman fell from a motorway bridge and was rushed to hospital.
Police were called to junction 3 of the M53 near Woodchurch[1] at around 3.40pm today, Sunday, August 13. Officers received a report a woman, aged in her 30s, had fallen from the motorway bridge.
Emergency services were called to the scene including police and ambulance and she was taken to hospital. The extent of her injuries is currently unknown.
The motorway was closed in both directions from junction 3 to junction 4 of the M53[3] as emergency services dealt with the incident. Eyewitnesses at the scene also reported seeing a helicopter overhead.
Road closures surrounding the area were also in place but have since been lifted. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police[4] said: “At around 3.40pm officers received a report that a woman aged in her 30s had fallen from a motorway bridge near junction 3.
“Emergency services were called to the scene and the woman has been taken to hospital for assessment to her injuries. A road closure was initially put in place but this has now been lifted.”
