M1 live updates as motorway closed between J21A and J22 after crash

Part of the M1 was closed after a crash. National Highways informed motorists^[1] of the collision between J21A and J22 at around 2pm on Wednesday, August 16.

The incident resulted in part of the northbound carriageway in Leicestershire^[2] being closed for more than an hour, before it reopened at around 3pm. Emergency services, including police, were deployed to the scene of the crash.

A diversion route was put in place. Posting to X, formerly Twitter, National Highways said: "The M1 in Leicestershire is closed northbound between J21A and J22 due to a collision. Emergency services are in attendance, including @leicspolice. Diversion route in operation - Hollow Triangle Thank you for your patience."
