Long queues reported after two traffic incidents around A17 at Gedney

Two traffic incidents have created ‘bedlam’ on the roads around the A17 this evening.

A collision was reported on the A17 at Gedney close to the Churchgate junction at around 6.20pm – and AA Traffic is reporting that the road is closed.

Meanwhile a lorry is reported to have gone into the dyke in Topsgate, Gedney, – which a number of motorists have been using in a bid to get around the first collision. There are reports that this lorry was transporting sheep but this is unconfirmed.

Heavy traffic congestion is reported around the area as a result of both incidents.

One motorist who was caught up in the problems said: “Every where is blocked – it is bedlam.

“Lorries are turning around in both directions and buses. It is just bedlam.”

Another motorist had to travel to Sutton St Edmund’s to return to Fleet after attending an event in Gedney.

AA Traffic states: “Road closed and queueing traffic due to crash on A17 Main Road both ways between Lowgate and Churchgate. The road is closed following an accident first reported shortly before 19:00. Affecting traffic between Holbeach and Long Sutton.”
