LIVE: Stretch of M67 closed due to ‘ongoing police incident’ – latest updates

A stretch of the M67[1] was closed off with a road above it still shut by police after a woman ‘fell from a bridge’ onto the motorway.

The eastbound side of the motorway was closed between junction 1 for Denton and Ashton-under-Lyne and junction 1A for Stockport Road. Officers were on the scene.

Drivers had been urged to plan their journeys this morning. A tweet posted by National Highways said: “The #M67 is closed eastbound between the J1 and J1A #Denton #GreaterManchester due to an ongoing police led incident.

The Manchester Evening News understands a woman fell from a bridge onto the motorway in the early hours.

The closure on the motorway had cleared by 6.45am but Seymour Street, which runs over the motorway, was shut off, with drivers warned to avoid the area. The road reopened by 8am.
