Live: M5 crash in Somerset with car ‘facing oncoming traffic’ on hard shoulder

The M5 was blocked southbound through Somerset this afternoon after a car crashed and spun on the busy motorway^[1]. Traffic and travel service Inrix reports that the vehicle is 'facing oncoming traffic on the hard shoulder'.

A lane was closed between Junction 23 and 24 near Bridgwater. "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident, a car involved on M5 Southbound from J23 A39 (Bridgwater North) to J24 A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South)," said Inrix earlier.

"Lane one (of three) is closed with the car on the hard shoulder facing oncoming traffic."

The crash had cleared from the motorway by 4pm.
