Crash on M6 sees four lanes close and seven-mile tailback
Traffic on the northbound carriageway was brought to a complete stop due to a collision between junction 17, for Sandbach, and junction 18, for Middlewich.
While lanes one, two, and three are now open, lane four is still closed while the vehicles involved are recovered.
National Highways are warning of 35-minute delays as the seven miles of congestions clears, and drivers are urged to check their route before using the motorway.
A spokesman for National Highways North-West said: “The M6 northbound between junction 17, Sandbach and junction 18, Middlewich, has been temporarily stopped due to a collision.
“Traffic has now been released in lanes one, two and three, but lane four remains closed for recovery of the involved vehicles.
“There is currently approximately seven miles of congestion on approach, causing delays of 35 minutes above usual journey times.”
