Boy killed in hit-and-run while crossing motorway

A 12-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run collision on the M62 in West Yorkshire, near Bradford.

He was struck as he attempted to cross the road on the eastbound carriage of the motorway between junctions 25 and 26 at about 9.50pm on Saturday.

West Yorkshire police confirmed that the child was found on the westbound side of the road after the driver failed to stop.

A 36-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and is in custody. Officers have launched an appeal for information.
