A car on the M4 spun around and crashed near Swindon[1] while driving through a downpour.

Roads policing unit officers from Wiltshire Police dealt with a single-vehicle road traffic collision between Junction 15 and 16 at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman said: "Despite the heavy downpour, the driver couldn’t understand how his Audi just spun around.

"A check revealed two tyres that were virtually slick. A little more car care, please."

The accident, which did not cause any noticeable issues with traffic on the motorway, occurred during a rainy day in the Swindon area as a yellow weather warning from the Met Office for thunderstorms was in place.

The warning remains in place until 8pm tonight (Wednesday).
