Teen killed in Cork crash named as gardai probe what happened

The 16-year-old boy killed in the early hours of yesterday morning after the car he was a passenger in drove the wrong way down a motorway has been named locally as Johnny Foley.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male driver and three other passengers in the vehicle were admitted to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other car, a woman in her mid-thirties, was also taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The two-car crash happened at about 1am on Saturday on the M8 motorway at Ballybeg, Mitchelstown.
