Drivers in Cambridge face a four-mile diversion as seven weeks of roadworks begin on a busy city road. Coldhams Lane is due to be shut between Nuttings Road and Barnwell Road.

Work is being carried out by electricity infrastructure company UK Power Networks. The road is closed from Wednesday, July 19.

It is currently set to reopen on Friday, September 1. Traffic will be diverted around Cambridge Airport[1] while the closure remains in place.

A Cambridgeshire[2] County Council spokesperson said: “Coldhams Lane, Cambridge will be closed both ways to all motor vehicles between the July 19 – September 1 due to works by UK Power Networks.”

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: “Advance Warning – Coldhams Lane in both directions closed due to electricity work from Nuttings Road to A1134 Barnwell Road. From 19th July to 1st September.

“Diversion – another four miles around the other side of Cambridge City Airport, via Newmarket[3] Road and Airport Way.”
