Queues on M2 coastbound between Junction 5 for Sittingbourne and Junction 7 for Faversham due to vehicle fire

Drivers are still experiencing delays on the M2 following a vehicle fire.

The coastbound carriageway between Sittingbourne and Faversham had been affected after the fire on a coach on the motorway.

National Highways say there will be ddelays of up to 65 minutes are possible in the area – though congestion is expected to ease shortly with one lane reopen.

KCC Highways have released a statement, saying: “Lane 2 is now open while lane 1 remains closed coastbound between J6 (Faversham) and J7 (Brenley Corner) to allow for recover and clean up following a vehicle fire. Allow extra time for your journey.”

Fire crews have since put out the flames.

Eyewitnesses also reported seeing multiple people left stranded on the side of the motorway as fire engines attended the scene.

Police and fire services have been contacted for comment.
