Plan your travel for Pride
Due to national industrial action, Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) have announced that no trains will be any stations in Brighton & Hove and the wider region on Saturday 5 August – the main day for the city’s Pride celebrations this year.
While conversations are continuing, the city needs to start planning for a safe and happy Pride celebration with the announced travel disruption.
All Pride events[1] will continue as planned, and we join Pride in asking everyone to plan their travel ahead – or extend their stay.
Trains services will be running on Friday 4 August and Sunday 6 August.

Travelling around the city
For anyone unfamiliar with Brighton & Hove Pride, several roads will be closed in the city centre on both Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 August for the community parade, the festival in Preston Park and the Pride Village Party in Kemp Town.
The Pride LGBTQ+ Community Parade[3] starts at Hove Lawns at 11am on Saturday 5 August and travels through the city centre to Preston Park. Roads will be closed and parking bays suspended along the seafront and the length of the parade route[4].
Roads will be closed for the Pride Village Party[5], including St James’s Street and Marine Parade.
There will also be road closures for the Fabuloso festival in Preston Park[6], including Preston Road between Stanford Avenue and Preston Drove, and Stanford Avenue between Preston Road and Beaconsfield Road.
Roads may also be closed during the weekend where the police advise it is required for public safety.
Bus timetables in the city will also be changing over the weekend.[7]

“While we are extremely disappointed about the announcement on Saturday train services, it’s important to remember that all the city’s fantastic Pride celebrations will still be going ahead.
“Months of planning goes in to making sure Brighton & Hove Pride is a safe and successful event for residents and visitors alike, and we’ll continue to work with Pride and our city partners over the next week to explore all our options.
“It’s always amazing to see the city come together to celebrate our LGBTQ+ communities in one of the country’s most historic Pride events.
“If you are planning to join us, please do plan your journey ahead.
“We will be doing all we can to ensure a safe and happy Pride for all!”
