M42 motorway set to remain closed all morning following serious crash near Tamworth
A serious crash in the early hours of this morning (Saturday July 15) has led to a closure on the M42[1] motorway. The incident happened near Tamworth[2] at around 2.15am.
Initially the motorway was closed in both directions between J10 (A5, Tamworth) and J9 Lea Marston. The northbound carriageway has since reopened but those heading southbound will need to make alternative arrangements.
National Highways updated their alerts on the Motorway Cameras website at 7.24am and it wasn’t good news for drivers looking to head south down the motorway[3] this morning.
Poll: Does the clean air zone charge put you off driving into the city centre?[5]
A Traffic England alert from the National Highways Agency said the motorway was expected to clear between 2:15 and 2:30pm when traffic conditions would return to normal.
Diversions for M42 crash
Highways crews are suggesting drivers to take the Solid Triangle along the A5 and A453 past Tamworth to then come back on the A446.
