M40 crash: Driver cut free after BMW spins off motorway

At around 3.45 yesterday (July 14), an appliance from Rewley Road Fire Station and two from Thame Fire Station were mobilised to a single vehicle crash on the motorway.

On arrival, South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust were already attending to a trapped driver in a vehicle that had aquaplaned and spun off the road.

After a quick brief from the paramedics, the affected lane was closed for safety reasons and crews got to work releasing the driver using battery operated cutting equipment.

The driver was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

A spokesperson from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “During these times of uncertain weather, drive to the conditions and leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front.”
