Live M25 traffic chaos as two crashes just miles apart cause delays
Two crashes just miles apart on the M25 in Surrey caused traffic chaos on Thursday (July 6). A crash on the motorway involving a lorry and a car led to a temporary full closure of the anticlockwise carriageway between Redhill and Godstone. The closure was then reduced to three lanes before the road later fully reopened.
Another crash between a “couple of lorries” also occurred on the opposite carriageway at junction 6 for Godstone which meant “all traffic [was] being temporarily held”.
The first incident was reported at around 10.30am and happened at Junction 7 for the M23. Congestion reached Junction 8 at Reigate and initially caused delays in the clockwise direction to Junction 6 Godstone due to onlookers.
Travel service Inrix said: “Three lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident, a car and a lorry involved on M25 anticlockwise at J7. Congestion to J8 Reigate, and onlookers clockwise back to J6 Godstone.” It added: “After a 15-minute hold, with lane one (of four) reopened to traffic.”
The second accident was reported roughly 30 minutes later on the clockwise carriageway near J6 Godstone and involved “a couple of lorries”. The motorway was fully reopened in both directions shortly before 2pm but residual delays remained for some time.
