Live: Slow traffic on M5 sparks delays as holidaymakers flock to West Country

Holiday traffic is officially underway as thousands of travellers flock to the West Country to kick start their summer holidays. According to traffic experts, around three million journeys will be made today alone (Saturday, July 22), with the M5 through Somerset earmarked as a traffic hotspot.

There are already reports of delays on the motorway as drivers make their way to the South West. According to traffic monitoring system Inrix, vehicles are queuing both near Taunton and Weston-super-Mare, as well as further south in Devon.

It comes after 'severe' delays on the M5 yesterda[1]y, caused by a number of crashes through the afternoon. We will bring you all the traffic updates here throughout the afternoon and evening, so check back to see if anything has changed.
