Recap: M5 reopens after vehicle fire in Somerset

All traffic was held on the M5 in Somerset[1] following a vehicle fire this afternoon (July 20). According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, both sides of the motorway were closed between Taunton and Bridgwater[2].

The fire is said to have broken out between junction 25 and junction 24 shortly after 5pm. The road reopened and traffic returned to normal at around 6.35pm.

Inrix says: “Traffic returned to normal, earlier vehicle fire on M5 in both directions from J25 A358 (Taunton) to J24 A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South). Traffic was held in both directions just after 17:00 due to the fire but sensors show traffic is moving again in both directions.”
