Dangerous drivers who caused death on our roads among criminals recently jailed

A killer driver on laughing gas and another motorist whose best friend died in a crash are among dangerous drivers who have recently been jailed.

Another offender was a road rage driver and in a fourth case a man caused a fatal crash on the M6. They were all involved in truly shocking incidents.

Judges believed they had no alternative but to send these offenders to prison. Here is a summary of these offences on our roads.

Shaun Tinsley

A motorist was jailed after smashing into another car at 113mph, killing the driver, while high on laughing gas. He was found by police at the Beaufort Hotel, near Mold[2], after the fatal crash.

Shaun Tinsley, from West Derby, now aged 28, was jailed after crashing into Wirral man Paul Loller’s vehicle “like a missile”[3] on the M62. He then careered into the central reservation and fled on foot, leaving the innocent 61-year-old dying at the scene.

The court heard the defendant has been involved in “serious criminal activity” during his lifetime.

Simon Jones

A man caused the death of his best friend after crashing a car into a tree at almost 100mph. Simon Jones, of Crispin Lane in Wrexham[4], was jailed for five years at Mold Crown Court[5] after admitting causing the death of 22-year-old friend Jack Daniel Elden Chahal by dangerous driving.

Prosecutor David Mainstone told the judge how Jones, 28, was driving a silver BMW along the A548 in Gronant on April 17 last year. A passing motorist saw the vehicle speeding along the dark road at about 4.30am before it swerved on the carriageway and careered off the road, landing on a grass embankment and smashing into a tree[6].

The court heard that an expert determined through CCTV that the defendant must have been driving in the region of 96mph – almost twice the speed limit[7] – in the area. It was also disclosed in court that the vehicle’s rear brakes were “worn through to metal” and deemed a serious defect that “may have affected the vehicle’s stopping distance”.

Wayne Parry

A road rage drug driver accused of attacking another motorist after being annoyed by his driving had “dual standards,” a judge said.

Wayne Parry, 36, unemployed, of Llwyn Onn, Rhos[8] on Sea, was jailed for six months and banned for 45 months at Llandudno[9] magistrates court.

Prosecutor Alys Haf said Parry had tailgated his victim[10] who’d left the A55[11] at Penmaenmawr and then punched him when he stopped his car. The victim’s daughter had been crying.

John Frazer Yates

A dangerous driver who caused the death of a dad-to-be in a horror crash on the M6 has had his sentence extended. John Frazer Yates, of no fixed abode but from North Wales[12], was driving on the M6 motorway in Cheshire, near Warrington, at 128mph just after midnight last November when he crashed into another car.

Christopher Smith, 41, from St Helens, was driving a Peugeot 107 and sustained life-threatening injuries before he died a day later. He was described as a “loving son, brother and uncle”.

Yates got out of his car and fled the scene, leaving his victim for dead. He was arrested several hours later and refused to provide his details or a breath sample.
