A1 northbound accident update as 4 people rushed to hospital after air ambulance lands on carriageway

Four people have been rushed to hospital after a horrific crash on a major Yorkshire motorway.

Emergency services swarmed the A1M Northbound close to Knaresborough[1], Junction 47, at 3.44pm today (July 7) following the crash which involved three vehicles. An air ambulance landed at the scene.

The carriageway between Wetherby and Minskip was closed for around four hours in both directions while crews attended the scene, causing congestion to back up for six miles and 75 minute delays[2].

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “We received an emergency call at 3.44pm on Friday afternoon to report a collision involving three vehicles on the A1M (northbound) close to Junction 47 (Knaresborough).

“Three ambulances, an air ambulance and two rapid response vehicles were dispatched to the scene and four patients were conveyed to hospital by road (two went to York Hospital and two went to Harrogate Hospital).”
