Woman dies in incident which closed M6 near Coventry for hours

A woman sadly died during an incident which closed all lanes on the M6 near J2 on the outskirts of Coventry[1]. West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS)[2] has this morning confirmed the death of the woman, who has not been identified, following the incident yesterday afternoon (June 5).
Emergency services raced to the stretch of motorway following 999 calls about 'concern for welfare' of a person. A WMAS[3] spokesman confirmed they found a woman in a critical condition.
Medics battled to save her life, administering advanced life support but sadly she was confirmed dead at the scene.
"We were called to reports of concern for a patient’s welfare near to junction 2 of the M6[4] at 1.09pm," the WMAS spokesman said. "Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a BASICS doctor and the Warwickshire[5] and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a female patient in a critical condition.
"Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, the woman could not be saved and she was confirmed dead at the scene."
No further details about the incident have been confirmed. CoventryLive has contacted Warwickshire Police[6] Force for a comment.
As a result of the incident, lanes on the M6 were closed for several hours and then traffic built for several miles in the run-up to rush-hour last night.
