Traffic cops on motorway bridge clock driver speeding at 107mph
A motorist was clocked doing 107 mph on the M40 in Warwickshire[1] in a police clampdown on speed that recorded an offence every 30 seconds. Officers from Warwickshire Police's Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) based themselves on a bridge over the M40 on Friday (June 15).
And they were horrified by the results. "Seventy-seven offences captured in 40 minutes this morning on the M40," a spokesperson said on the Unit's Facebook page. "Today's maximum speed was 107 miles per hour.
"Imagine the devastation of having a collision at one hundred and seven miles per hour. Imagine what the forces involved would do to a human body. Imagine the impact on the family left behind.
"We will keep carrying out speed enforcement until we don't capture any offences. We can't be everywhere, but we could be anywhere."
The offences were recorded after a similar patrol was carried out on a different bridge over the M40. Both highly-visible operations were designed to cut speeding after a woman died in a horrific multi-vehicle smash[3] on the same motorway in April.
